The HomeBuilder grant — are you eligible?
The Federal Government’s new HomeBuilder initiative is set to hand Australians $25,000 to build a new home or renovate their existing home.
It sounds like a fantastic boost to the construction sector, but it’s important to understand whether or not you will qualify for the grant.
General eligibility
- You must be a person and not a company or trust
- You are over 18 years of age
- You are an Australian citizen
- Must not be earning over $125,000 per annum as an individual applicant based on 2018/19 tax returns or later
- Must not be earning over $200,000 per annum as a household based on 2018/19 tax returns or later
Building a new home
- Must enter building contract between 4 June 2020 and 31 December 2020
- New home must be principal place of residence
- Property value does not exceed $750,000
- Construction must commence within three months of the contract date
Renovating an existing home
- Must enter building contract between 4 June 2020 and 31 December 2020
- Existing home must be principal place of residence
- Renovation contract is between $150,000 and $750,000
- Existing property must not exceed value of $1.5 million
- Construction must commence within three months of the contract date
Information on when and how you will be able to access HomeBuilder will become available through the relevant State or Territory revenue office.
